Playwright Else Went, alumnus of The Public’s acclaimed Emerging Writers Group, brings her transformative new play INITIATIVE to The Public this fall. A bittersweet reflection on adolescence at the dawn of the new millennium, INITIATIVE charts the intertwined lives of seven teens from 2000-2004, as they become friends and more than friends, wrestle with their potential, face incalculable loss, and struggle to find their way in (and get out of) “Coastal Podunk, California.” Emma Rosa Went directs this epic world premiere guaranteed to make you remember the most difficult and beautiful things about growing up.
INITIATIVE Young Partners Game Night
Monday, November 24, 7:30-9:00PM
Public Studios, 440 Lafayette St.
Game Night with members of the INITIATIVE cast & creative team
*Note that this event will not include a performance of INITIATIVE.
We're turning back the clock in honor of the play's iconic setting, so bring out your inner pop punk rebel, pop princess, or boyband heartthrob while munching on your fav nostalgic snack (OMG who remembers Dunkaroos?!) and playing classic board games, card games (Dungeons & Dragons Yahtzee anyone???), and so much more.
Interested in coming to the Game Night (and other fun events, too)? Learn more about The Public's Young Partners program or email Partners@publictheater.org to join and RSVP!
It’s 2000 in coastal California. Seven teens are trying to make sense of love, friendship, loss—and everything in between.
An epic about growing up, messing up, and finding the courage to keep going.
“There were stars everywhere, the last Summer we saw each other.” — Riley, Chapter 2: We Dance, INITIATIVE On the edge of the universe, between childhood and what comes next, INITIATIVE is a story of youth, discovery, and the quiet heartbreak of becoming someone new.
