Flying out of the 80’s indie rock scene on the waves of a “left of the dial” college radio revolution, and creating some of the greatest pyrotechnics in the exploding underground music scene, R.E.M. and The Replacements (aka The ‘Mats) ruled their own dueling, and sometimes even collaborative, rock n roll dynasties in distinctly different ways. While the more erudite R.E.M. went on to top 40 super-stardom, Paul Westerberg and the down and dirty Replacements wrote some of the most iconic indie rock songs - and produced some of the most legendary rock n roll spectacles - of all time! Guitars will jangle, lyrics will be mumbled, sung, and screamed, and the songs, THE SONGS, will be on full display when Joe McGinty & The Loser’s Lounge put the R.E.M. vs The Replacements rivalry on stage for all to see, and for YOU THE FANS, to vote for! Who will be the winner in this battle of the bands? Come find out, and help us decide, once and for all, only at Joe’s Pub.
“(Michael) Stipe was definitely more of an intellectual than myself, so I’d play the guttersnipe to his more cultured hoo-ha” - Paul Westerberg, from Trouble Boys: The True Story of The Replacements
