FOREVER PUBLIC INITIATIVES

Nestled under a canopy of majestic trees, The Delacorte Theater is a unique destination in the heart of Central Park. It provides hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers and visitors with the transformative experience of The Public Theater’s Free Shakespeare in the Park. 

After an 18-month renovation, the theater is reopening in August 2025, bolder and brighter than ever before, and ready to share the magice of Free Shakespeare in the Park for many summers to come.

As our city comes together to rebuild The Delacorte, The Public is building the first-ever permanent endowment Fund for Free Theater. The Fund will protect the Public's extraordinary free programs:

Free Shakespeare in the Park: The largest most accessible program for free theater in New York City.

Mobile Unit: Serving a vast cross section of New Yorkers with little or no access to the arts.

Public Works: Re-centering communities in our theater-making.
